We recently had a delightful opportunity to chat with Marilyn from Richfield Flowers and Events and were truly inspired by the remarkable brand she represents. We’re excited to share more about it with you.
We ask about Marilyn’s career choice inspiration, and her response is bound to captivate you. “Richfield Flowers and Events boasts a rich legacy of 45 years in the industry, and I have been fortunate to contribute my passion for nearly 36 of those years. My Journey into the world of floristry began with horticulture classes in high school, inspired by my mother’s love for flowers, plants, and gardening. Despite initially pursuing a computer career in college, a captivating Easter display at my church prompted a major switch to Retail Floral Management and Landscape Design. Since that moment, I’ve been dedicated to crafting stunning weddings, events, and bespoke celebrations for clients, friends, and family.”
She emphasized that her client’s needs for their events is at the core of her approach. She strives to uncover the client’s vision and bring it to life, utilizing a diverse range of flowers and supplies sourced globally, while prioritizing locally grown products to align with budgets and support local growers. Balancing creativity with client expectations is crucial in her designs. While many clients have a clear vision, Marilyn loves injecting a WOW factor, opting for at least three distinct styles of arrangements for centerpieces to add a touch of creative flair.

We also inquired with Marilyn about her approach to injecting creativity into her designs while also fulfilling her client’s requirements: “When it comes to selecting flowers for different occasions, I emphasize the beauty of seasonal and locally grown options. From dahlias, hydrangeas, and zinnias to iris, delphiniums, lilies, tulips, and lisianthus, each season brings its own array of textures. Incorporating greenery, such as hanging eucalyptus, dusty miller, and ruscus, adds drama to the designs.”
Marilyn advises those planning weddings or events to choose a florist early, especially for dates in busy summer months. Opting for a color palette with multiple shades, complementing dresses and linens, ensures a cohesive and visually appealing outcome.

Her greatest joy in her job stems from receiving heartfelt feedback from clients. Recently, a bride shared her joy with 2000 white tulips and fresh pine at her wedding, describing the transformation of the venue into a magical ceremony and reception. Such moments of happiness, expressed through reviews and notes, truly make my job fulfilling.
As a personal touch, Marilyn and her husband cultivate over 100 dahlia plants yearly on their 6-acre property. From April planting indoors to a garden move in May, they harvest from July until the first frost, ensuring a fresh and locally grown supply. Flowers are not just a profession for her; they are her life’s passion.
